£4.5bn proposal for Thames Valley link to London in government hands

24 September 2008
A multi-billion proposal put forward by engineering consultancy Arup to link all the main Thames Valley towns to Heathrow and Central London in minutes is reportedly being studied by the government.

The £ 4.5 billion proposal involves building a brand new Heathrow Hub station at the airport to be linked by a new rail link that would electrify all Thames Valley services.

According to Arup directors, the plan, which also involves provision of a 15 mile tunnel between the new station and the Eurostar terminal in London could be ready for use by 2019.

The proposal was "well received" by stake holders at a Thames Valley Transport Forum organised by the Thames Valley Economic Partnership in Reading last week, says thamesvalley.co.uk.

According to the website, the idea seems to have transcended party lines as Thames Valley MPs united to call for business and communities across the region to unite behind a clear transport vision for the future.ADNFCR-1584-ID-18795232-ADNFCR
