£600 million start for Kent's Building Schools for the Future programme

28 October 2008
A consortium to oversee a £600 million contract has been formed in the South East following the appointment of Land Securities Trillium (LST) to manage the Kent Building Schools for the Future (BSF) project.

The £600 million deal is being hailed as a milestone in the county and the largest of its kind in the UK under the BSF scheme to completely refurbish or rebuild selected schools.

According to Ian Ellis, Chief Executive Officer at Land Securities Trillium, the wider local community stands to benefit from increased employment opportunities, apprenticeships and work placements as a result of the project.

He said: "The Kent BSF project is a transformational partnership which will benefit generations of students by creating inclusive, flexible learning spaces with groundbreaking information and communications technology infrastructure.

The £600 million is for the first phase of the project involving the first ten secondary schools in a wider project for Kent expected to be worth £1.8 billion over the next ten-15 years.

Other members in the consortium being led by LST include Kent County Council, Building Schools for the Future Investments and Northgate Education.ADNFCR-1584-ID-18847341-ADNFCR
