£12m research centres to open at the University of Surrey

5 December 2008
The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has awarded funding to the University of Surrey for two new centres that will produce the scientists and engineers needed for Britain's future.

Surrey has been selected by the UK funding body for science and engineering to host the new centres worth nearly £12 million, which are expected to train over 100 researchers at doctoral level.

The university's Vice Chancellor Professor Christopher Snowden expressed his delight with the news, saying the new industrial doctoral training centres build on the institution's "excellent track record of postgraduate development".

He added that the institution's "active knowledge exchange, innovation and collaboration with industry" resulted in the investment, which underpins the university's ability to provide "a stimulating and transformative research environment".

The two centres are part of 17 industrial doctoral centres that will be opened across the country to cater for doctoral research engineers with "state-of-the-art" research expertise and business skills.ADNFCR-1584-ID-18916146-ADNFCR
