AG Technologies' Argent 47 can stop MRSA

11 December 2008
Surrey-based science and technology company AG Technologies has devised an innovative, technologically based approach that can help eradicate drug-resistant superbugs and stop the spread of bacteria.

The firm claims to have developed the only proven technology to bond pure silver to fabric, a breakthrough it says is 99.99 per cent effective in preventing the spread of infection caused by MRSA.

It is the result of the firm's founder Michael Indiano's collaboration with a textile industry executive with 40 years of success and innovation, the company said.

"AG Technologies is defining the new standard of excellence for purity particularly for companies and institutions seeking to proactively address the risk of spreading these destructive agents," the company stated.

Dubbed Argent 47, the method molecularly binds silver to thread, which can be used in laboratory coats, patient gowns, privacy curtains, sheets and mattress pads used in hospitals.

Other antibiotic-resistant bacteria such as E.coli and staphylococcus can also be prevented from spreading using the technology, which is "an innovative product that is cost efficient" and does not sacrifice quality.ADNFCR-1584-ID-18925083-ADNFCR
